Tervetuloa tutustumaan aivoterveyteen, neurotieteisiin ja terveysteknologiaan! Tämän leirin opettajina toimivat Itä-Suomen yliopiston kansainvälisen Neuro-Innovation -tohtoriohjelman tutkijat. Leirin tiedeopetus tapahtuu englanniksi, mutta leirin ohjaajat puhuvat myös suomea.

Ever wondered what makes you, you? How does the mind work? Why is it that you can remember your name, address, or your birthday date but are unable to remember a formula in the math test? How can we improve brain health using technology? Join us in exploring “The Human Mind”!

We delve deep into the brain, a fascinating human machine. The participants will receive a hands-on introduction to the brain’s parts and their functions using microscopes and various activities. Through engaging sessions, they will learn how the brain works and get acquainted with memory disorders and their symptoms through fun memory games.

By participating in this brain health camp, you will learn the techniques used to study the brain, like imaging and be introduced to digital health technology. Interactive demos of devices used to monitor brain activities and track patients with brain diseases will give participants hands-on experience.

The goal is to use hands-on practical sessions to teach children about brain health, creating a foundation upon which they can glimpse into the astonishing world of Neuroscience. Perhaps this could inspire them to choose neuroscience as a future career path.

The camp is organised in cooperation with the Neuro-Innovation PhD Programme, University of Eastern Finland. The teachers of the camp are researchers from the programme.

Lasten ja nuorten yliopiston tiedeleirit ovat täynnä mielenkiintoista tiede-, taide- ja teknologia-aiheista tekemistä. Leireillä pääsee puuhailemaan kavereiden kanssa sisällä ja ulkona sekä tekemään hauskoja tutkimuksia ja tehtäviä, jotka innostavat luovaan uteliaisuuteen ja oppimiseen.

Leirin hintaan kuuluu päivittäin lounas sekä välipala iltapäivällä. Mikäli leiriläinen tulee leirille aamulla heti tukikohdan auettua klo 7.30, on syytä ottaa mukaan myös huoneen lämmössä säilyvät eväät. Tukikohta on auki klo 16.30 saakka, mihin mennessä osallistujat tulee hakea leiriltä. 

Lasten ja nuorten yliopisto toimii valtakunnallisten tiedekasvatuksen suositusten mukaisesti. Suosituksen viisi periaatetta ovat laaja-alaisuus, saavutettavuus, osallistavuus, yhteisöllisyys sekä innostaminen. Tavoitteena on tukea lasten ja nuorten tiedepääoman (Science Capital) kehittymistä muun muassa lisäämällä ymmärrystä tieteestä ja tutustumalla tieteen parissa työskenteleviin ihmisiin.

Olemme Suomen tiedekeskukset ry:n jäsen. Opettajat ja ohjaajat ovat perehtyneet tiedekasvatukseen.

Osallistujille on otettu tapaturmavakuutus. 

The science camps of the University of Children and Young People are full of interesting activities related to science, art and technology. At the camps, you can do things with friends indoors and outdoors and do fun research and tasks that inspire creative curiosity and learning.

The price of the camp includes a daily lunch and a snack in the afternoon. If the camper arrives at the camp in the morning as soon as the base opens at 7.30 a.m., it is advisable to bring snacks that can be stored at room temperature. The base is open until 4.30 p.m., by which time participants must be picked up from the camp.

The University of Children and Young People operates in accordance with the national recommendations for science education. The five principles of the recommendation are broadness, accessibility, inclusiveness, communality and inspiration. The aim is to support the development of the Science Capital of children and young people, for example, by increasing their understanding of science and getting to know the people who work with science. We are a member of the Association of Finnish Science Centres. Teachers and instructors are familiar with science education. Accident insurance has been taken out for the participants.

Itä-Suomen yliopiston Kuopion kampus

Varsinainen tiedeleiritoiminta järjestetään aikavälillä klo 9.00–15.00. Leiriläisten olisi hyvä saapua paikalle viimeistään klo 8.30, jotta leiriopetus päästään aloittamaan klo 9.00.

Leiriläisille järjestetään valvottua toimintaa myös aamusta ja iltapäivästä, joten he voivat tulla leirin tukikohtaan tarvittaessa aamuisin jo klo 7.30 alkaen. Iltapäivällä tukikohta on avoinna klo 16.30 saakka, mihin mennessä leiriläiset tulee hakea leiriltä.

Kuopio Campus of the University of Eastern Finland

The actual science camp activities will be held between 9:00 and 15:00. Campers should arrive at the camp at 8.30 a.m. at the latest, so that the camp teaching can start at 9.00 a.m.

Supervised activities are also arranged for the campers in the morning and afternoon, so they can come to the camp base in the mornings as early as 7.30 a.m., if necessary. In the afternoon, the base is open until 4.30 p.m., by which time the campers must be picked up from the camp.

Leiri on suunnattu 10–12-vuotiaille. Leirille otetaan maksimissaan 15 osallistujaa ilmoittautumisjärjestyksessä. Tämän tiedeleirin opetuskieli on englanti, joten osallistujilta edellytetään englannin luku-, kirjoitus- ja puhetaitoa.

The camp is aimed at 10–12-year-olds. A maximum of 15 participants will be admitted to the camp in the order of registration. The language of instruction at this science camp is English, so participants are required to be able to read, write and speak English.
